Bolé Road Textiles is an Atlanta-based brand founded on a simple premise: create beautiful things that create opportunity. Each rug, pillow, and textile in the Bolé Road collection is handwoven by women artisans in Ethiopia using traditional East African weaving techniques — flat-weave construction in cotton and wool, in geometric patterns and colorways rooted in the region’s textile heritage. The work is extraordinary both for what it is and for what it makes possible.
What does Bolé Road Textiles make?
The Bolé Road collection includes flat-weave rugs in a range of sizes from accent to area, throw pillows in coordinating patterns and colorways, and select textile accessories. All pieces are handwoven in Ethiopia and finished by hand. The flat-weave construction is lightweight, reversible in many styles, and works well in high-traffic spaces. Patterns draw on geometric traditions from East African textile culture, rendered in a palette that translates naturally into contemporary interiors.
How are Bolé Road rugs made?
Bolé Road rugs are handwoven on traditional looms by women artisans in Ethiopia. The flat-weave technique — weaving colored weft threads through a warp — is one of the oldest and most durable rug construction methods. The result is a thin-profile, reversible textile with no pile and no backing required. Bolé Road works directly with its artisan partners, ensuring fair wages and consistent work. Each rug is a genuinely handmade object with minor variations that are characteristic of the process.
Are Bolé Road rugs good for high-traffic areas?
Yes — flat-weave rugs are among the most durable rug constructions for high-traffic areas. The tight, low-profile weave resists crushing and soil accumulation better than pile rugs, and many styles can be spot-cleaned or machine-washed in cold water on a gentle cycle. A rug pad is recommended on hard floors for grip and to extend the life of the rug. Bolé Road rugs work well in entryways, kitchens, dining rooms, and other heavily used spaces.
