A wall hanging brings warmth, texture, and acoustic softness to a room in a way that framed art cannot. At Lulu and Georgia, the wall hangings collection spans handwoven wool and cotton tapestries, macramé and knotted fiber art, printed and painted canvas pieces, decorative objects designed for the wall, and artisan-made textile panels in natural materials. Objects chosen for the way they hold a wall rather than simply occupy it — each with the tactile quality that makes a room feel genuinely considered.
What wall hangings does Lulu and Georgia carry?
The collection includes handwoven tapestries in wool, cotton, and mixed fiber, macramé and knotted wall hangings in natural and dyed cotton rope, printed and painted canvas panels, decorative metal and wood wall objects, and botanical and nature-inspired wall sculptures. Most hangings include a rod or dowel for easy installation. Materials range from natural jute and undyed cotton to dyed wools in saturated and neutral palettes.
How large should a wall hanging be above a sofa?
A wall hanging above a sofa should be approximately two-thirds to three-quarters the width of the sofa — the same general rule as for a painting. For a standard 84-inch sofa, a hanging in the 50–65-inch range reads as well-proportioned. The bottom of the hanging should sit 6–8 inches above the back of the sofa. If the hanging is significantly narrower than the sofa, consider flanking it with smaller pieces or sconces to fill the visual field of the wall above the seating.
Can wall hangings be used in humid rooms like bathrooms?
Natural fiber wall hangings — cotton, wool, jute — are best kept in dry environments where humidity is controlled. Persistent moisture can cause natural fibers to mold, stretch, or deteriorate. For bathrooms with good ventilation and moderate humidity, a small cotton or sealed-print hanging may be fine; avoid placing natural fiber hangings directly adjacent to a shower or bath. For humid spaces, consider a metal or sealed-wood wall object instead.
