The entry is the first room and the last — it is where the character of a home is announced and where the functional objects of daily life (keys, bags, shoes) need somewhere to land. At Lulu and Georgia, the entryway tables and cabinets collection brings together console tables in wood and metal, hall benches with and without storage, narrow cabinets and sideboards proportioned for entryway use, and entry-scale mirrors — each chosen for the combination of visual quality and the practical function an entry requires.
What entryway tables and cabinets does Lulu and Georgia carry?
The collection includes narrow console tables in solid wood, lacquered wood, and metal, hall benches in upholstered and wood-seat configurations, entryway storage cabinets with doors and drawers, and narrow sideboards suited for placement against a hallway wall. Most console tables are 28-32 inches in depth, suitable for a standard hallway; narrow console options in 12-16 inch depths are available for tighter entries. Heights follow standard console height of 30-36 inches.
What size console table works in an entry?
For a standard entry or hallway, a console table 48-60 inches wide and 12-16 inches deep allows adequate circulation while providing a meaningful surface. In a larger entry with more wall space, a 72-inch console is appropriate. The console height should allow for comfortable placement of objects and lamps — 30-34 inches is standard. Leave at least 36 inches of clear walkway between the console and any opposing wall or furniture; in a tight entry, a narrower profile table is worth the reduced surface space.
How do I style an entryway console table?
A console table styled for an entry needs both visual interest and practical function. Start with a mirror above it to double the light and make the entry appear larger. Add a lamp on one side for warm light at the entry (and practical illumination when arriving after dark). Place a tray or small dish for keys and mail, a vase or plant for life, and one or two decorative objects that reflect the broader aesthetic of the home. A bench or pair of stools beneath the console adds a place to sit when putting on shoes and fills the visual gap below the table surface.
