A candle on a table does something a lamp cannot: it creates a center of warmth that is visible to everyone seated around it, that flickers and changes, and that burns down into a different object than the one you started with. At Lulu and Georgia, the taper and pillar candle collection brings together dinner tapers in classic and sculptural forms, pillar candles in beeswax and paraffin, and decorative candles in a curated palette of wax colors — each chosen for the quality of the burn and the way the candle looks on the table before it's lit.
What taper and pillar candles does Lulu and Georgia carry?
The collection includes standard and slim dinner taper candles in a range of heights and colors, sculptural twisted and spiral tapers, natural beeswax pillars and votives, wide-column pillar candles for lanterns and candleholders, and decorative wax candles in sculptural forms. Colors span warm neutrals, off-white and cream, terracotta and rust, sage and olive, dusty rose, and classic ivory and black. Most tapers are sold in sets of two, four, or six.
What candleholders work best with taper candles?
Standard taper candles fit a 7/8-inch opening, which is the most common candleholder diameter. Before purchasing holders, measure the base of the taper — if the fit is slightly loose, a candle adhesive ring or a small wrap of floral tape at the base creates a snug fit and prevents tipping. For tapers in sculptural holders with a narrow opening, dip the base of the taper briefly in warm water to soften slightly, then press into the holder. Never leave a burning candle unattended in an unstable holder.
How do I style taper candles on a dining table?
Odd numbers work well: three tapers in candleholders of varying height at the center of the table, or five in an asymmetric arrangement that runs the length of the table. Mix candleholder materials — brass and ceramic, or concrete and glass — for a collected look. Combine taper height: one tall taper (12 inch), one medium (9 inch), and one short (6 inch) in a grouping reads as intentional. For a dinner party, light the candles 20 minutes before guests sit down so the wax is flowing and the light is warm by the time dinner is served.
